Reboot Your Style for Spring

I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait for spring to finally arrive. Among the many things I’m looking forward to, retiring my snow boots might be number one. Get excited for a reprieve from winter’s chill and prep your wardrobe for the new season.

1. Layering

Whether you rock a peacoat or a parka, it’s time to toss your heavy outerwear in the back of your closet. Mix and match lighter layering pieces to transition you from a breezy day to a chilly night. The options are almost limitless: a retro bomber, a classic denim jacket, a sleek camel coat, a cashmere sweater, a sporty hoodie or the perfect quilted vest.

2. Rain gear

I’m all for May flowers but there’s nothing worse than being caught unprepared during one of those frequent April showers. Stay dry and stylish with the right pieces. Let’s start with outerwear. You can go for the timeless trench, a hip windbreaker or something more rugged like a Patagonia. Get a good pair of rain boots while you’re at it. Lastly, invest in a large umbrella because you want to be fully protected.

3. Pastels

Get the Cape Cod vibe without going full southern frat boy. The key is to go for muted hues of the classic Easter colors – light blue, yellow, pink, mint green, and of course, Nantucket red. And to err on the side of safety, wear only one of these bright pieces at a time, balancing your look with neutrals like navy, gray and white.

4. Prints

Reflect all those gorgeous flowers in bloom through your look. Florals, like pink a decade ago, are the new frontier. Be bold and go for a big Hawaiian print, or go conservative with a micro-pattern. Incorporate nautical stripes, polka dots, camo, madras, and more in your wardrobe.

5. Fresh kicks

Kiss those heavy snow boots goodbye! Treat your feet to a new pair of white sneakers; Jack Purcells are a personal favorite. They look so clean and crisp, perfect for springtime. Dress them up with a suit for a trendy, downtown look, or down with jeans and a baseball cap on the weekend. Other great season-appropriate options include Chelsea boots, suede bucks, and of course, your favorite boat shoes.

6. Lighter denim

A slim pair or dark jeans can get you everywhere in life, but be adventurous and opt for a lightwash denim. They’re all the rage now, in part thanks to Kanye. If you still haven’t gotten a pair of white jeans yet, make this your year to step up to the plate. They’re fresh, sleek and effortlessly cool.
