Jo's Bloody Mary

Like most great cocktails, the Bloody Mary can boast many theories on its true origins. Many claim that a Bloody Mary came to its name at Harry’s New York Bar in 1921 when it reminded a patron of the Bucket of the Blood Club in Chicago and a waitress there named Mary. Another theory is that the drink is named after Queen “Bloody” Mary I of England, so named for her persecution of Protestants. Some like to claim that was inspired by the actress Mary Pickford. Whatever the true birth of this drink, it'll remain a classic brunch cocktail or hangover cure.

 

Combine this homemade Bloody Mary mix with vodka for a true Bloody Mary. However, the beauty of a Bloody Mary is that you can throw just about any liquor in there. Try adding tequila for a “Bloody Maria” or gin for a “Red Snapper.” Cheers!

 

Ingredients For Jo’s Bloody Mary Mix

  • 46 ounces tomato juice (1 can)
  • 2 tbsp freshly grated horseradish
  • 3 tbsp of Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp of Tabasco Sauce
  • 3 tbsp chipotle sauce
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp freshly ground pepper
  • 1 tsp celery salt
  • Fresh lemon juice

 

Directions

1. Stir all ingredients in a 64 oz container. Top off with more tomato juice if needed.

 

2. Combine Bloody Mary mix with vodka for a true Bloody Mary. If you want something different, try adding tequila for a Bloody Maria or gin for a Red Snapper.

 

Garnish your Bloody Mary with a celery stalk, or get creative and throw in a pickle spear, blue cheese stuffed olive or pickled okra.
