The EYES have it

Between YouTube, your ceaseless stream of work emails and the occasional Jen Selter video, men have never spent more time in front of their computer screens.

What it often means is twitching eyes, burning eyes, blurred vision, headaches or migraines and difficulty focusing on objects in the distance (especially when Jen Selters backside is involved).

A recent survey conducted by the American Optometric Association shows that more men than women experience vision issues from using tech devices like computers, because men tend to look away from their computer more (we’re easily distracted).

Here are four quick tips to help you minimize the headaches and get more work done:

  • It is important for men to get their eyes checked yearly. And if it’s time for glasses, embrace them: Being a man is like being a fine wine. We only get better with age, and glasses will make you look more handsome, attractive and intelligent. Once you get your prescription, check out some cool frames from designers like Oliver’s People.

  • Upgrade your computer screen. If you still are looking at the tube-style monitor from the era of the dinosaurs than, buy a flat-panel LCD. It is much better on your eyes.

  • Read your screen from about 20 to 26 inches away.

  • Give your eyes a break or two during the day. This is also good for your state of mind, otherwise known as not trashing the HR director’s desk.

Of course, there is another option: Hire an assistant to read your emails aloud to you in a low, breathy voice.

Remember: you only have one pair of eyes so take care of them.
